Diving
Tourists come to the Maldives for its excellent diving sites due to its diverse and beautiful undersea ecology. With more than 2000 coral reefs and sandbars, it is a paradise to divers and marine biologists alike. It would be best to join a Dive Safari so that you would not only enjoy the dive areas near your resort but those in far away areas too.
Diving could be done while you are in your resorts or while you are in your cruise vessels that offer ample diving facilities. As you explore the under waters of Maldives you would discover lots of sea life, most notable of these are the mantas, sharks, turtles and lobsters. Diving is regulated in Maldives so make sure you have your diving certification card with you.
The Banana Reef is one popular diving area. It is located on the Eastern side of the North Male atoll, inside the barrier reef. The reef lies at a depth of just 10 feet below the sea and plunges to a depth of 100 feet in the western side. In here, only drift dives are possible. You would see all sorts of fishes and corals. Since the fishes here show absolutely no fear, you could touch them and take excellent photographs.
If you don't know how to dive but want to experience the underwater adventure then why not try submarine diving? A German made whale submarine is available for tourists to view the underwater spots of the Maldives without getting you wet. The submarine has a capacity of 50 passengers and can take you to depths up to 150 meters. Getting on a tour at night in the submarine is perfect since you would see all sorts of sea creatures from manta rays and sharks in their sleep. Submarine diving is great for those non-divers who want to enjoy watching the different marine species.
